Company Overview Sulzer Rotating Equipment Services (RES) is an independent provider of services and equipment repairs for the Turbomachinery industry. Sulzer RES specializes in the repair and overhaul of gas turbines, steam turbines, compressors, pumps and electromechanical equipment for the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical and Power Generation industries.
Position Summary Rotating Equipment Engineers provide engineering support to Sulzer's production facilities, serve as project managers on projects executed at the RES Houston facility or the field and serve as subject matter expert in several specialized technical roles.
This job document describes the role and responsibilities for engineers with the specialty of New Parts Design Engineer.
The NPDE will be responsible for the design and manufacture of new parts within the New Parts organization. From Reverse Engineering throughout the first qualification article manufacture, the NPDE will be responsible for overseeing the complete Product Development Lifecycle (PDL). Within this role, the NPDE will follow internal criteria and industry standards to produce high quality parts that meet the prescribed design criteria.
This role will entail strong interaction with Engineering and Production, as well as with vendors and third party providers.
Responsibilities: Reverse Engineering
- Responsible for all data collection and reverse engineering of samples for the design of new parts. Train in different dimensional data collection tools (Manual measurements, CMM, Laser Scanner, etc.) and apply learned knowledge on a daily basis.
- Responsible for properly storing and managing information.
- Follow workflow and internal procedures to ensure quality requirements. Implement revision control.
- Participate in the development and continuous improvement of RE and quality procedures.
Design Engineering
- Responsible for the initiation and development of complete design projects. Manage new parts manufacturing process from reverse engineering throughout the first article manufacture.
- Participate in developing design requirements and validation. Work closely with Production and Engineering and follow design requirements and design plan.
- Responsible for developing all models, drawings and specifications needed for the production of new parts. Work closely with Engineering and Production to ensure quality and industry standards are being followed.
- Once Technical Packages (models, drawings and specifications) have been approved, work closely with vendors and production in order to ensure meeting design criteria and quality requirements.
- Continuously develop Know-How related to different manufacturing processes (casting, forging, machining, tooling, etc.) and standards to fulfill quality requirements.
Project Management
- Manage and report on assigned capital projects through the NP Design manager.
- Supervise and lead sub-suppliers in Product & Process Development.
Quality/Production Support
- Develop inspection programs (CMM/Laser Scanner programs, spreadsheet reporting models, etc.) to support production inspection.
- Participate in gauge/tool design to optimize the quality control process.
Safety:
- Takes personal responsibility for their own, and co-worker's safety.
- Identify problems and areas of improvement and notify management accordingly
- Ensure customer visitors have received the required safety induction, are properly signed in and have the required PPE while on shop visits

Requirements - Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interface with personnel from diverse backgrounds at all levels of the organization
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability learn technical and design aspects for Rotating Equipment service and repairs
- Is in pursuit of a Professional Engineer license
- Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
- Time management skills
- Understanding of business finance and sales
- Physical ability to work in a shop environment
