SUMMARY The Software Engineeresponsibilities will include designing, developing and testing software for the current and next generation of devices for computer-assisted surgery and robotics.
Software Engineers at Smith and Nephew Robotics develop software used to help surgeons perform orthopedic surgery more accurately and efficiently. Smart, motivated individuals have the opportunity to develop software used by surgeons in the operating room that has direct effect on patientives.
Software Engineers will perform the following tasks:
Read and understand software requirements and deliver quality software that meets the requirements
Design architectures and implementations to meet product goals
Be responsible for managing review and documentation of their own designs
Contribute to review of designs from colleagues
Debugging reported product issues
Developing new features to existing product
Explore and incorporate new technologies to improve products and internal processes
Inventing ways to make products better, and to conceive new features and new products
Qualifications Requirements: Education: Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field
Masteregree or beyond, or equivalent experience (2+ years industry experience)
Experience and Knowledge:
Three or more yearsperience developing/working with large-scale C++ projects
Demonstrated programming experience with the OpenGL graphics library
Deep experience with the Linux operating system
Understanding of 3D geometric concepts such as rotation matrices and coordinate transforms
Excellent analytical, problem solving and organizational skills
Ability to communicate with systems users and present results of tests and experiments in text, tabular and graphic form
Excellent organizational, documentation and written/verbal communication skills
Preferences: Experience/expertise in computer vision/image processing algorithms
Experience with user interface toolkits
Experience with programming for Microsoft Windows
Experience programming for time-critical/real-time applications
Expertise in applied Linear Algebra concepts
Experience using data-analysis tools such as Matlab.
Experience using and programming for position tracking systems
Experience programming for inter-device communication (e.g. sockets, USB, Ethernet, Bluetooth)
Knowledge of mechanical design and/or machine shop experience
Experience with 3D modeling or CAD software
Business development expertise either through coursework or industry experience
Experience in design and implementation of FDA-compliant medical device software systems
