MTS Systems Applications Engineer

Summary: The Cloud Power Solutions Business Unit is a relatively new product line at ON Semiconductor. This high visibility team operates as a rt-upside our multi-billion-dollar corporation. The Cloud Power team focuses on developing and bringing to market high-current, high-efficiency DC-DC voltage regulators for the cloud infrastructure. The cloud infrastructure market is one of the fastest growing segments in the semiconductor industry. This segment includes servers, large-scale data centers and the telecommunications network. You will be joining a high-visibility, high growth team that is creating innovative power management products that power high performance cloud infrastructure systems. By leveraging our existing advanced technologies in discrete power devices and packages, you can drive the development of innovative integrated products to change the way for entire power systems applications. The position primarily involves power management IC definition, validation, evaluation and key customers support.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Work closely with marketing to develop architectures, product definitions and product roadmaps for Cloud server computing systems. Translate the systems applications requirements into product requirement specifications. Regularly visit key customers to review, refine, and validate these requirements.
- Create system level SIMPLIS or SPICE simulations, validation plans, compliance matrices, and datasheets. Work closely with design engineering, package engineering and test engineering teams as needed to optimize IC performance. Perform validation tests for power IC devices.
- Define and drive package and process technology roadmaps and lead communication with central support teams (package & technology). Schedule and lead quarterly reviews with process and package teams.
- Drive design-in and resolve critical technical issues for key customers. Occasional travel domestic and overseas
Qualifications Qualifications: - Minimum 3 years of industry experience in applications of power management ICs. Master degree in Electrical Engineering, or recent PhD graduate.
- Strong technical background in the area of power management, isolated dc-dc and non-isolated dc-dc power conversion. Experience in multiphase VR Vcore and Memory applications is a plus
- Excellent understanding of systems and applications requirements, tradeoffs between features and performance requirements vs. IC implementations
- Good understanding of power MOSFET operation principles, parasitic and design trade-off.
- Proficiency with design and simulations tools such as Simplis, Pspice and MathCad
- Hands-on experience in the lab debugging, probing and testing of power devices using standard equipment such as power supplies, digital oscilloscopes and functional generators
- Excellent technical communications skills both in writing and verbal.
- Ability to work with multi-national teams in different time zones
- Highly motivated, self-starter with innovation, integrity and attention to details
