Overview The US IT Lab Solutions Team manages the roll-out, support and development of software solutions that are used in 80+ laboratories in the US. Support and development activities cover a variety of LIMS packages, quality systems, instrument support models and data requirements in a variety of industries.
The candidate will be responsible for partnering with various departments across the EHS organization and other IT functions to deliver optimal solutions that range in scope from small changes to system implementations. The IT Lab Solutions engineer will assist in creating system and functional specifications from requirements, and focus on delivering efficient algorithms, database architectures, programming and documentation needed to implement solutions based upon best business practices and current methodologies.
Primary Responsibilities Primary responsibilities include developing and implementing new software and hardware solutions, and ongoing continuous improvement of existing portfolio of technology products. The engineer will be expected to use the best tools and languages to solve each problem. We expect that the incumbent has a firm understanding of laboratory business and operations, and is well practiced in development principles with a variety of programming languages.

Specific Responsibilities - Develop, enhance, integrate and/or support LIMS systems, business applications, data management systems, and other programmable or configurable software and hardware components.
- Provide overall technical leadership and lifecycle management for LIMS solutions.
- Provide technical oversight over large projects like laboratory informatics (LIMS), electronic lab notebooks (ELN), lab execution systems (LES), etc, or multiple simultaneous projects.
- Analyze, design, code, test and implement software to to meet business and technical requirements.
- Develop beneficial relationships and collaborate with various IT groups to deliver LIMS and business solutions
- Present and support LIMS designs to EHS Technology committees and other stakeholders.
- Maintain software development as per Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and participate in audits to represent software design and change management
- Implements appropriate framework and processes, uses tools and follows SOPs end-to-end.
- Knowledge of software vendors and their processes for support, product, consulting. Interact with vendors to understand and influence product roadmap and strategy.
- Evolve and adhere to software development lifecycle process (e.g., Agile, Waterfall).
- Support solutions response to service problems, implementing workarounds, resolving defects, analyzing for root cause and taking preventive actions.
- Participate in service capacity planning and software performance analysis and tuning.
- Mentor and collaborate with more junior level programmers and colleagues on design, coding, testing and release processes.
- Contribute to on-going design, architecture, integration standards and methodologies for software development.
Profile - Bachelor's degree in a Technology (Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems) or Scientific (Chemistry, Biology, etc.) field or related discipline or equivalent in terms of education, training, and demonstrated work experience
- Minimum Six (6) years' progressive experience in software engineering, programming, and/or system architecture
- Experience participating in distributed, virtual teams
- Scientific informatics knowledge, laboratory operations and Information Technology (IT) proficiency is preferred
- Experience in both waterfall and agile development methodologies
Required Skills - Experience with Seedpak LIMS, Oracle Forms, IDXL scripting language and other commercially available LIMS systems
- Domain experience with a variety of LIMS applications and laboratory business functions
- Expertise in VBA programming in Microsoft Excel and Access 97. May substitute experience in Visual Basic.
- Expertise in authoring ANSI compliant SQL DML statements. Familiar with database design and DDL in a variety of database systems.
- Experience in system design and implementation from requirements to release for analytical laboratories. Experience in designing systems that support compliance frameworks (e.g. TNI, ISO 17025, 21CFR Part 11, etc) for environmental laboratories.
- Familiarity with .Net programming in C#, VB and web services protocol experience. (REST, SOAP, JSON and XML)
- Experience in authoring technical documentation such as functional specifications, system designs, data flow diagrams, E/R diagrams, etc.
- Team player with strong written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to successfully communicate with distributed stakeholders and colleagues.
