Our fitness product development team is hiring a full time Senior Software Engineer, with a passion for developing embedded software, to provide technical leadership for our next generation of fitness product platforms at our headquarters in Kansas City. You will be tasked to develop software to support platforms using cutting edge technologies and be required to think outside of the box to ensure that our platforms are optimized for low power, while still maintianing exceptional performance that our users expect.
Senior Software Engineers on the Fitness Platforms team will also:
- Develop low-level software to turn on hardware platforms for fitness wearable devices
- Partner with electrical engineering and manufacturing to turn on new processors and validate hardware designs
- Collaborate closely with product teams to integrate new features and technology into product platforms
- Coordinate closely with electrical engineers and vendors to integrate externally developed deliverables into projects as well as provide technicla feedback in discussions on roadmaps and component selection for future platforms
- Perform advanced technical research on new technologies with electical engineering and develop prototypes to demo the new technology wtih the team
- May perform as a Technical Lead or Lead Low-Level Software Engineer for softwre development projects
- Participates in project leadership and/or program planning including providing technical input to product development plans and concept documents
- Collaborates and adds value through participation in peer code reviews and technical assessments in areas of expertise, providing comments and suggestions to support softwre designs and new technologies
- Assist design engineering as needed with component datasheet review and schematic design review
- Offers process improvement suggestions and authors new procedures as appropriate
- Perform periodic low-level software maintenance on product platforms in production as required
- Mentors and/or supervises to less experienced Software Engineers (1 & 2)
- Provides reliable solutions to a wide range of difficult problems using sound problem solving techniques
- Applies good judgment in setting schedules and risk taking
- Apply a sense of urgency, commitment and focus onthe right priorities in developing solutions in a timely fashion

Qualifications Candidates for this role should possess a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math or Physics or another relevanat engineering/technical field AND a minimum of 5 year relevant experience OR Master of Science Degree in any of the fields noted above AND a minimum of 3 years relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience plus a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 as a general rule.
Qualified candidates will demonstrate proficiency with:
- Must possess proficiency in writing software in C or C++ as appropriate for performing the essential functions of this job description
- Experience working with ARM-based MCUs and/or MPUs; ARM Cortex M Series and ARM Cortex A Series preferred
- Proficient in one or more of the following areas: I2C, SPI, UART, SDIO, USB, SDRAM, Mobile DDR-SDRAM, NAND-Flash, MMU, DMA, JTAG, ANT Wireless, Bluetooth, Bluetooth Smart, WiFi
- Proficient in using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and etc. to design, test and validate embedded systems
- Good understanding of an embedded system RTOS; 3+ years of hands-on experience working on an embedded device using an RTOS preferred
- Proficient in low level interrupt handling code and device drivers
- Ability to work independently with little direction, ability to work collaboratively and professionally with other Garmin associates in cross functional teams to achieve goals
