Introduction:

The Emissions Testing Engineer ( Engine Test Cell Engineer) at SGS - ETC will act as the engineering lead for projects of moderate to high complexity in the testing and development of engines. This person will be involved with all aspects of testing and development projects from the time the project is quoted until it is completed. It is expected that the test engineer will define project needs, complete project tasks, and present results/conclusions to the customer with minimal supervision. Testing will be focused on heavy-duty engines, but may involves testing a broad range of engine types. Projects may include performance and emissions development, calibration, and/or validation. In many cases, test results may be used to demonstrate emissions conformity to state and federal agencies, and will be conducted in compliance with 40 CFR Part 1065 and other relevant regulations. The test engineer is expected to always act with integrity, strive for the highest in data quality, and fully support the certification/homologation process.

• Lead test planning, execution, test cell configurations, data quality checking and data delivery
• Configure the test cell automation system for testing, including channel set-up, calibration, programming of test.
• Diagnoses and resolves engine and test cell equipment problems in a timely manner.
• Work with customers to define test requirements and develop test plans.
• Responsible for leading automation process of engine-related equipment.
• Provide engineering support to customers. This typically includes data analysis, results interpretation, component troubleshooting, transient cycle evaluation, ECU flashing, configuring ECU development tools, control system calibrations and development.
• Work with technicians to conduct engine tests and maintain optimal test cell operation per company and customer requirements.
• Applies engineering principles and statistical methods routinely in project work.
• Participates in building business opportunities with key customers by providing superior service and technical expertise.
• Responsible for advocating for the customer and strive to ensure the engine laboratories are producing high-quality data, being well utilized to meet program goals.
• Create and develop visual presentations, progress reports, quotes, other documents for the customer.
• Coordinate with facility and instrumentation engineers to ensure combustion air, engine cooling, fueling, electrical, and emissions sampling subsystems are adequate for each project.
• Update internal procedures and develop new procedures as required
• Lead development of new tools and advanced testing approaches in areas of automation system development, control system development, test procedure development, and optimization
• Provide leadership to install, improve, and commission advanced instruments/systems, partnering with other groups.

Qualifications:

· B.S. Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred)

· Minimum two years' relevant experience with expertise in engine testing procedures and technology

· Experience with analysis of emissions testing results strongly preferred

· Outstanding computer skills and computer programming skills

· Ability to approach problems in a scientific manner and complete tasks with minimal guidance

· Desire to work in Aurora, CO area

· Willing to travel up to 15% of the time

· Expert knowledge of engine operation and controls for exhaust emissions (gasoline, diesel, natural gas)

· Working knowledge of engine calibration software and hardware tools

· Ability to competently and independently operate an engine test cell laboratory

· Understanding of Federal regulations for emissions testing: CFR 40 Part 1065, and relevant standard setting parts

· Ability to perform routine maintenance on and calibrate the laboratory equipment

· Maintains awareness of hazards & proposes controls to supervisor, HSE representative, relevant client/site contact

· Actively participates in incident investigations and risk assessments as deemed necessary by SGS management
