The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.
Scope of Position:
- Senior level process engineer position focused on thermal based processes. Expectation to lead projects, experiments, and technical initiatives in support of business technical roadmap. Capable of leading platform process start-ups, new product scaling into manufacturing, and general process rigor in manufacturing.
Job Responsibilities: - Lead process start-up, scaling, and/or migration activities in support with business priorities.
- Lead projects focused on cost reduction, capability improvement, or continuous process improvement. Deliver results of project to plant manufacturing engineering/operations with rigorous hand-off criteria.
- Design, plan, and execute experiments to improve process performance and build fundamental understanding of key process variables.
- Audit process governance throughout manufacturing platforms via process control and process discipline. Ownership of engaging plant on corrective actions to out of governance events.
- Support of manufacturing engineering in troubleshooting process upsets.
- Participate in technical road mapping meetings for future technology initiatives. Offers data and historical perspective of current process capability.
Travel:
- Domestic and International travel, Up to 50% depending on project
Education and Experience - B.S. in Engineering Degree, preferably Ceramics, Materials, Chemical, or Mechanical.
- Masters of Science Engineering Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years process engineering experience.
- Minimum of 2 years in manufacturing or plant support work environment.
Desired Skills and Experience - Experience with heat treatment process of glass, ceramic or related materials
- Experience with design of experiments, statistical data analysis, and/or six sigma (DMAIC) preferable
- Strong problem solving and analytical capabilities (particularly statistical analysis)
- Excellent communications, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
- High initiative, able to work with ambiguous technical situations, and able to work in team environment
- Strong organizational skills and detail oriented
