The Specialty Materials segment manufactures products that provide more than 150 material formulations for glass, glass ceramics and fluoride crystals to meet demand for unique customer needs. Consequently, this segment operates in a wide variety of commercial and industrial markets that include display optics and components, semiconductor optics components, aerospace and defense, astronomy, ophthalmic products, telecommunications components and cover glass that is optimized for portable display devices.
Scope of Position:
- Process engineer position focused on thermal based processes. Expectations to participate in projects, plan/execute experiments, and engage in technical initiatives to improve capability in support of technology road maps. Employs rigorous experimentation techniques and capable of strong data analysis to make actionable decisions. Support manufacturing with shift coverage during process start-ups or new process scale ups.
Job Responsibilities: - Engage in project work focused on specific deliverables of process definition, improvement, or stabilization. Should be able to either support or lead technical projects as part of this focus.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement through the use of capability analyses of process data.
- Organize, execute, and analyze experiments in support of project or department technology goals.
- Participate in cost reduction projects, to deliver sustainable manufacturing from engineering teams.
- Support manufacturing engineering teams in troubleshooting of processes.
- Engage R&D to bring new process understanding from R&D into manufacturing.
Travel:
- Domestic and International travel, Up to 50% depending on project.
Education and Experience - Bachelor of Science Engineering Degree: Materials, Chemical, Ceramics, or Mechanical.
- Masters of Science Engineering Degree preferred.
- Experience with engineering/manufacturing environment.
Desired Skills - Experience with heat treatment process of glass, ceramic or related materials
- Experience with design of experiments, statistical data analysis, and/or six sigma (DMAIC) preferable.
- Strong problem solving and analytical capabilities (particularly statistical analysis).
- Excellent communications, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
- High initiative, able to work with ambiguous technical situations, and able to work in team environment.
- Strong organizational skills and detail oriented .
