Division Information
The PACCAR Technical Center provides engineering excellence to the truck, engine, and winch divisions of PACCAR Inc through innovative product development and testing. The Technical Center is located in the Skagit Valley about 65 miles north of Seattle, Washington.
Job Functions / Responsibilities - Serves as a Powertrain Validation Engineer and subject matter expert for current, post model year, and developmental validation programs providing insight, development, and tracking of all related validation testing
- Builds tailored test plans and conducts System Acceptance and Property Validation testing as assigned
- Maintains and communicates the overall status of all Powertrain Validation trucks and engines in coordination with all applicable PACCAR Technical Center (PTC) Departments and PACCAR Divisions
- Specifically identifies and tracks all validation truck/engine faults, including the coordination of required troubleshooting, maintenance and data base tracking
- Oversees and conducts all Summer and Winter Validation truck preparations including vehicle instrumentation in coordination with the lead engineer and other associated PTC departments
- Coordinates and conducts validation testing specially requested by various PACCAR Divisions
- Orchestrates mileage tracking and fault reporting for Rapid Mileage Accumulation (RMA) trucks and engines, and the coordination of any RMA truck/test cell engine maintenance requirements with PTC Vehicle Operations, Engine Test Cell managers and the Powertrain Validation manager
- Supports PTC driver requirement meetings, truck and test cell upfit planning, environmental test events and other validation requirements as assigned
- Coordinates with associated DAF, Division, and PTC engineers to ensure content accuracy and completeness
- Plans, coordinates, conducts and manages projects of moderate complexity and size with minimal supervision to ensure the projects stay within scope and are delivered on time and within budget.
- Analyzes project requests, discusses project requirements with requestors and formulates preliminary project plans, budgets, and schedules
- Leads test setups, verifies that test equipment and instrumentation equipment meets specified requirements and performs preliminary software and data checks
- Orchestrates data collection and analysis
- Writes reports, as appropriate, incorporating results, conclusions, and recommendations
- Establishes and maintains cooperative and productive work relations with all other departments
- Develops and maintains a high level of familiarity with PACCAR products and service tools
- Presents results of test or investigative projects to divisions or management personnel
- Off-site testing requires up to 10% travel
Qualifications - Minimum 6 months of truck/automotive related work experience desired
- Strong advanced diesel technical background and experience
- Experience with vehicle software highly desired
- Ability to manage personal workload and willingness, flexibility and initiative to respond to shifting time and project demands.
- Ability to summarize technical issues and communicate effectively
- Self-directed, excellent analysis and technical judgment required
- Powertrain hardware and software testing experience a plus
- Self-directed, excellent analytical and technical judgment required
Education - BS degree in appropriate discipline
- MS preferred
