Overview Aerojet Rocketdyne is a world-recognized aerospace and defense leader that provides propulsion and energetics to the space, missile defense, strategic systems, tactical systems and armaments areas, in support of domestic and international markets.
We are bringing about 800 new jobs to Huntsville, Alabama, and building a state-of-the art advanced manufacturing facility. Defense-related engineering, program management, and related support positions will be housed at this site, home of Aerojet Rocketdyne's Defense headquarters and Rocket Shop Defense Advanced Programs.
Aerojet Rocketdyne is seeking experienced Combustion & CFD engineers primarily to support solid rocket propulsion assignments at our facility in Huntsville, Alabama. This posting may represent one or more specific immediate or near-term openings. Those who express an interest may be considered for current and future positions.
Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each)
70% - Perform combustion and fluid dynamics analysis for solid and liquid propulsion systems using 1D, 2D, and 3D analytical tools, including computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis with software such as Fluent. Conduct pre-test performance predictions and post-test analysis of engine test data, and refine the analyses to better match test data through physics-based critical thinking. Be a key part of Aerojet Rocketdyneeam by leading CFD analysis support on projects to develop solid rocket motors, liquid rocket engines, and high speed air-breathing propulsion systems.
20% - Participate in design and verification tests of both solid and liquid propulsion systems and components. Develop strategies to verify and validate analysis results. Participate in team meetings, technical reviews, design reviews, peer reviews and problem solving meetings.
10% - Produce briefings for peer and management reviews, and present to internal and external customers. Using best practices, document all work and prepare formal reports.
Requirements Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aero or other related discipline and at least five (5) years of propulsion experience, preferably with solid rocket motors (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
Additional Requirements: Experience with advanced aerothermodynamics, compressible flow, and combustion analysis of solid rocket motors.
Experience using ANSYS Fluent or Loci framework CFD tools. * An advanced degree is preferred.
US Citizenship required. Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Security Clearance at the appropriate level (U.S. Citizenship required). Must also be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information, and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements:
Employees in these positions must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer; stamina to sit or stand and maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; may occasionally lift/carry/push/pull up to 25 pounds; may require occasional walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and/or bending; and vision to read printed materials and a computer screen, and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. May require the ability to travel by air or auto. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. These positions may be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization.
