The University of Tennessee Office of Capital Projects - Division of Facilities Planning is seeking a Mechanical Engineer and Project Manager for facilities design review and construction project management preferably located in the West Tennessee area. This position will assist division management and University administrators with the planning and administration of the Universityapital Program, which will include travel for project oversight.
Duties and Responsibilities: Manage building system projects from inception to close out;
Perform budget review, programming, development of contract documents, bidding and contract negotiation, and contract administration;
Provide technical expertise and guidance on building systems to University departments and campuses;
Ensure effective design application of design standards, criteria, and programs in coordination with campus administrators and users;
Assure the preparation and review of plans, specifications, and bid documents;
Assure the preparation of request for proposals and related documents;
Assure accurate and timely constructability reviews;
Oversee the accomplishment of major mechanical projects;
Manage processes for field observation and monitoring of work in progress;
Direct action relating to construction requests for information and submittals;
Assist UT System project managers with reviewing project phases with follow up written comments.
Qualifications Qualifications: BSME from an accredited university is a minimum requirement for this position;
Professional registration as a mechanical engineer is a minimum requirement;
Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems, equipment, and controls for buildings is required;
A minimum 5 yearsperience of design and contract administration for mechanical systems, preferably in professional design firm is required;
Experience with sustainable design and familiarity with ASHRAE standards and building codes is necessary;
Effective written and verbal communication skills are necessary;
The ability to interact effectively with government officials and architectural and engineering professionals is essential;
Experience in managing multi-discipline projects and coordinating work among them is essential;
