The Systems Integration Engineer I is responsible for the design, test, validation and transfer to production of high-sensitivity, multi-color, fluorimetric optical device modules that are key components of molecular diagnostic instruments. The Optical Engineer is also responsible to work routinely with a broad range of optics-related issues, from internal optical technical support of Cepheid instruments and fluorescence-based assays to development, test and validation of custom optical systems used in Manufacturing.
- Testing and optimization of individual components of the optical system and fluorescent materials.
- Create and execute design verification test plans and protocols, and optical test method validation.
- Transfer product subsystems and test processes from Development to Manufacturing
- Create BOMs and purchase specifications, creation and execution of design verification test plans and protocols, test method validation, component and system test specification generation and justification, generation of Production-level documentation, and computer interfacing for measurement automation.
- Data analysis, as well as failure analysis
- Perform system level design, prototyping and testing of optical systems consisting of light sources, lenses, filters and detectors
- Assist in the specification of LED, filter, and detector components, optics, and optical bench components as well as electronics associated with light sources and detectors and related optical and electrical test equipment
- Internal support of assay development and technical service groups, providing technical expertise on optical system performance and assay requirements related to fluorescence detection
- Interface with Consumables group to support the design and qualification of new and existing optics consumables.
- Work independently in a cross-disciplinary environment to plan and execute experiments using specialized test equipment and perform experimental data analysis.
- Other job functions include performing office administrative tasks, including test material acquisition and experimental reports and presentations.
- Perform lab and office administrative tasks, including lab organization, equipment acquisition, and maintaining precision instrumentation.
- Facilitate technical problem solving through proposed experimentation and alternate designs/approach
- Follow GLP and GMP when executing lab/administrative work
- Maintain organized and complete documentation of activities, and provide regular updates covering progress, problems and solutions.
- Communicate effectively across organizational functions
- Comply with FDA and Cepheid Quality System requirements
