The Role: The Services DevOps Engineer will provide highly skilled technical support and delivery capability for production services in a technical operations environment. This person will support technical and procedural consistency within a team focused on the implementation, service delivery, and support of products, systems, & networks. On a day-to-day basis, the DevOps Engineer drives initiatives for driving down incident rates and works with all levels of operations to improve service recovery times. In addition, this person will develop the implementation process to ensure that all aspects of operability are delivered whilst ensuring that existing service levels are maintained or improved. The role also includes designing and supporting operational standards, procedures, and best practices. Responsibilities: - Provides a high level of technical and subject matter expertise in one or more technologies and serves as a point of escalation for technical issues related to specialty.
- Produces, delivers, and maintains appropriate documentation for systems in accordance document control standards and procedures.
- Uses innovative methods including the redesign of process and providing technical solutions to reduce the volume and mean time to recover from incidents.
- Identifies risks & issues and takes ownership to deliver appropriate resolutions.
- Provides detailed implementation/project plans across multiple, complex work streams according to agreed standards and ensures project processes and timelines are understood and followed.
- Works and cooperates with internal and external groups when required in order to fully support environments and maintain service.
- Improves change management processes and procedures to ensure the most efficient processing of change within appropriate service risk constraints.
- Contributes to or author technical documentation such complex changes instructions.
- Reviews, and updates as appropriate, operations procedures, standards, and technical policies.
- Collaborates with business, third party vendors, developers, application support and technical operations groups to determine appropriate hardware/software needed and to resolve any issues impacting the application processes. Stays abreast of recent developments in related technical community, including new technology and business news that may impact vendors' ability to provide service.
- Leads the analysis and design of complex solutions and requirements definition, including translating technical and business requirements into physical installations, costing design elements, and obtaining agreement to proposed solutions.
- Provides direction into standards and procedures for monitoring, capacity planning, tuning, maintenance, performance optimization, backups and recovery; ensures infrastructure will meet capacity requirements to deliver projects on time.
- Deputize for the team manager as required.
Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience with Red Hat or other Linux OS.
- 3+ years of experience with Python and Git.
- 1-3 years of experience with Puppet or Chef.
- 1-3 years of experience with KVM for virtualization.
- 1-3 years of experience with Jenkins for continuous deployment environments.
- 1-2 years of experience in a DevOps environment.
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals including VLANs and firewalls.
- Outstanding judgment and excellent interpersonal, communications, presentation, organizational, and project management skills
- Experience administering multi-tiered applications, including capacity analysis, service configuration, monitoring and troubleshooting.
- Good understanding of monitoring and testing system performance and providing performance statistics and reports.
Additional Qualifications: - Experience managing IT infrastructure for high transaction, SaaS, or other Internet delivered services.
Familiarity with scripting tools
Troubleshooting and resolving hardware and software problems.
Certifications in any of the following areas: Linux, PostgreSQL
