Job Description The Reliability Support Engineer is part of the contract management regional team and responsible for providing technical support in the development, implementation and operation of John Crane´s service agreements This individual will play an important role in the organization, as he/she will support John Crane´s sales and service team efforts to achieve excellence in contract management and in reliability service delivery.
- Perform feasibility studies that assess customer needs and use that knowledge to help develop service offerings, including total cost of ownership and financial benefits for users.
- Support the implementation of reliability, asset management and condition based maintenance programs by performing business mapping, developing product selection guides, identifying bad actor equipment, sharing best practices, performing equipment data surveys and others.
- Support the operation of service agreements through:
- Failure Analysis and RCA (Root Cause Analysis).
- Reliability Studies.
- Interviews with Operators, Engineers, and Maintenance personnel to determine and develop the procedures and changes necessary to support all programs
- Data Management and Data Integrity Support (JC Interface Reliability Management Software and customer´s CMMS - Computerized Maintenance Management System).
- Engineering Calculations and Design
- The design and optimize advanced mechanical seal support systems (API plans)
- Technical Training and Best Practices
- Assist with customer relationships as appropriate.
- Additional duties as assigned.
Training and Development Opportunities
The Reliability Support Engineer will be trained in:
- Advanced mechanical seal and power transmission couplings calculations to design efficient systems that maximize run time.
- Product standardization techniques and identify how to achieve measurable Mean Time Between Repair goals consistent with the customer's reliability program
- Rotating equipment best practices and procedures to provide employees with the skills and knowledge they will need to be successful.
- Certification in CBM associations such as vibration and thermography.
- Data Management and Asset Management methodologies.
- Interaction with other regions and countries.
Position Requirements Education: Bachelor's Degree Required - Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline preferred
Preference for fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese as a second language
Preference for Vibration and Thermography experience.
Preference for previous experience in pump maintenance and reliability.
Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office and other software programs.
Travel (50% of the time is typical) to customer sites to implement new programs and support existing ones.
Physical/Mental Requirements
- Must be able to sit for extend periods of time; a minimum of 2 hours.
- Must be able to maneuver to all areas of the office, shop, warehouse, or manufacturing plant
- Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds and carry up to 10 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, reach, kneel, twist, and grip items while working at assigned desk area.
- Must have the manual dexterity and coordination to operate office equipment.
- Must be able to simultaneously manage several objectives, changing priorities and reassign priorities to complete assignments.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
- Must be able to respond to visual and aural cues.

Work Environment Work environment is typically considered within a Smiths location during normal or extended business hours to include offices, manufacturing plants and repair facilities. Work environment may also include customer sites including oil well sites, and meeting venues.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and approved PPE is required when on the factory
