General Information

To provide the engineering expertise necessary to analyze, and communicate natural gas storage well performance and field performance, assure reservoir and well integrity, and operate underground natural gas storage fields.

Responsibilities

• Provides technical expertise necessary to establish, maintain and monitor the reservoir integrity and performance of the existing Corporation Storage fields, as well as to plan, design and develop new storage capabilities from existing or new fields;
• Conducts and coordinates required shut-in tests, pressure tests and gas analysis tests; maintains pressure-volume and back-pressure (deliverability) curves for each storage field; analyzes test data. Verifies stored gas inventory. Monitors wellhead and annulus pressures. Determines field/well integrity failures. Identifies gas migration; conducts necessary field investigations. Initiates requests for more extensive testing in problem areas. Prepares reports and recommends corrective action. Follows up on all identified issues;
• Analyzes historical performance of storage wells, travels to fields to coordinate and oversee well tests, such testing including blowing well to the atmosphere and bottom-hole fluid sampling. Analyzes test results to identify wells that have lost significant deliverability. Leads team to determine and design deliverability restoration program. Develops cost estimate; coordinates with Well Services Engineers and vendors, conducts post well work testing. Analyzes test data and advises management of results;
• Monitors, tests, and evaluates performance of existing storage fields to identify fields and/or wells that are underperforming or being underutilized for use in storage service expansion projects. Designs engineering plan to develop incremental storage capability and develops cost estimates. Simulates reservoir behavior with complex computer models. Advises management. Analyzes applicability of new technology for storage;
• Investigates third party activities, including: Foreign production drilling activity, wells abandoned and production operations for possible violation of storage through seepage or pilferage; estimates losses. Recommends corrective action. Follows up. Observes and discusses foreign drilling operations affecting storage with foreign operators. Protects Companytorage integrity, verifies foreign operationsmpliance with companyrill-through procedures. Investigates foreign coal mine activities for possible interference with a storage fieldperations and integrity; maintains engineering liaison with coal mine operator; analyzes mining plan and determines potential impact on storage facilities and field performances. Provides data and engineering support for company position during negotiations;
• Evaluates risk to storage field of unleased acreage being considered for condemnation litigation. Assists in developing the company position;
• Analyzes the daily volume, pressure and usage reports to determine if storage fields are operating within expected parameters and liaisons with Gas Control staff and Field Operations personnel to verify that storage operations are satisfactory. Provides Gas Control and Field Operations personnel with storage well/field operating plans and any changes to resolve problems. Evaluates impact to Storage Service customers and advises management;
• Utilizes various computer programs and databases to assure quality control of seasonal, monthly, weekly and daily pressure and performance data;
• Assures the reliable collection of daily storage injection/withdrawal activity and seasonal pressure data and maintains accurate departmental databases;
• Provides information system services required by the Storage Department for engineering studies, database development, operations simulation and management reports. Confers with and advises other departments concerning information systems developments throughout the company. Informs manager of important developments and assures efficient expansion of the companyystems as related to Storage Department;
• Consults with Storage personnel to identify engineering, operational, and geologic information requirements, evaluates options, recommends solutions, and implements recommendations. (Examples include: modeling storage field and system performance; remote data capture technologies, programmable solutions to enhance data analysis, database management, asset profitability evaluations, and cost management systems, etc.);
• Acts as a liaison with other departments on projects that could affect storage operations. Review the projects to determine problems; recommends alternatives. Collaborates with Area operating personnel;
• Maintains technical expertise, keeps current on products and procedures. Develops original and improved ideas and alternative solutions to problems. Attends and participates in technical conferences and seminars. Reads technical literature. Studies Company and governmental policies and regulations and assures compliance;
• Other tasks as required.

Qualifications and Education

Qualifications

• Analytical ability to gather, interpret and communicate data;
• Ability to use math, logic and reasoning in analyzing data;
• Ability to use related industry software products;
• Experience with MS Office products (Word, Excel, Access) required;
• Demonstrated interpersonal skills and communication skills.

Education / Experience

• Bacheloregree in an Engineering or science discipline required; Petroleum Engineering preferred;
• Applicants without an Engineering degree, but who have significant experience, may align to the Technologist job ladder;
• 3-5 yearsperience in reservoir engineering, well operations, and well flow test analysis preferred, although other levels of experience can be evaluated.

*This position requires candidates to:

• Have and maintain a valid driver's license;
• Provide a driver's abstract for review;
• Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing;
• Be available for overtime, extended work hours, and call-outs as needed;
• Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home.
