Position Summary Performs various engineering assignments with a focus on complete mechanical systems in a Repair Operations environment.
Duties - Designs mechanical parts and processes for use in new product development and the repair of surgical devices and instruments.
- Measures and documents mechanical parts considering complete mechanical systems.
- Conducts research that tests and analyzes the fit, form, and function of new components and the feasibility, design, operation and performance of existing equipment, components, systems and processes.
- Creates solid models and engineering drawings with a focus on manufacturability.
- Develops, sources and evaluates prototype designs.
- Conducts failure analysis and identifies critical components.
- Specifies system components that conform to engineering design and performance specifications.
- Designs tooling, jigs and fixtures.
- Performs first article and prototype inspections.
- Conducts technical presentations to medical professionals and IMS employees.
- Coordinates with purchasing and the production floor to find suppliers and vendors.
- Creates part numbers for components and assemblies for purchasing, inventory control, and factory use.
- Operates effectively in a team setting.
Required Experience - Bachelor's degree (BS) in Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university; and up to 3-5 years of experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have up to 3-5 years of experience with the following in a regulated industry (medical preferred):
- Materials engineering, metallography, and working with polymers, and plastics. Must have the ability to build prototypes as well as reverse engineer mechanical parts.
- Machining processes and techniques, ability to solder and handle small delicate parts is essential.
- Parametric modeling.
- Schematic capture, PCB layout and CIS/DE-HDL, library tools.
- Understanding of mechanical systems and interaction with overall electrical sub-systems
- Working with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.
- Production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
- Translating voice of operations customer input into specific design requirements
- Design control methods, including verification/validation testing techniques.
- Project management.
- Computer Skills - Must be proficient with all Microsoft Office applications; previous experience with Oracle preferred.
- Parametric modeling (SolidWorks strongly preferred).
- Mechanical design experience (medical device industry strongly preferred).
- Aptitude for hands-on tasks and broad understanding of machining techniques.
- Ability to prepare and present complex engineering designs to other engineering disciplines, projects teams, customers, and senior management.
