Job Summary The selected candidate will also be appointed as Chair of the Aviation Department, initially for a 3-year term renewable. The Chair reports directly to the Dean and supervises the faculty and teaching/lab assistants in the Department. Currently, the Department has one undergraduate degree program (BSc in Aviation) but has plans to add more undergraduate and postgraduate programs in the near future.
The appointed Chair will be required to provide academic leadership to foster the highest possible level of excellence in teaching, research and service activities within the Department, and to ensure that it is run professionally on a daily basis. The Chair will also contribute effectively to the development of the College of Engineering by ensuring that its strategies and policies are implemented accurately and effectively within the Department and cascaded goals are achieved.
The Aviation Department has currently about 450 students and is growing rapidly. The vast majority of students in the BSc. Aviation program are sponsored by Etihad Airways as cadet pilots. The University's strategic partnership with Etihad Airways is getting stronger over the years and the appointed Chair will be required to maintain and strengthen this partnership.
Required Skills - An earned doctorate in Aviation or related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
- An excellent record of teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
- Demonstrated experience in aviation program and course development at university level.
- Strong record of publication and scholarship.
- Previous Chair or Program Director experience is desirable.
- In depth knowledge and understanding of JAR/EASA Air Transport Pilot License curriculum.
- Pilot licensure and flying experience is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Spirit of entrepreneurship, and willingness to be engaged in university-industry collaborations in the region.
- Understanding of new media, visual communication, and e-learning.
- Experience in working with people from different ethnic backgrounds.
