Title: Pre-Comm Mechanical Engineer

Job description: The Mechanical Testing Engineer is responsible for executing jobsite Mechanical activities of the Pre-Commissioning group on a major Greenfield Alumina Refinery project in the United Arab Emirates; whether performed by direct hire, or under subcontracts. The Mechanical Testing Engineer shall be experienced with industry standard pre-commissioning and commissioning work practices. The Mechanical Testing Engineer reports to the Pre-Commissioning system engineers (Respectively to the Redside and Whiteside) and will work closely with other Mechanical Testing Engineers plus at times I&C and Electrical Testing Engineers. Mechanical Testing Engineer will supervise the Mechanical Craft for Mechanical activities. Mechanical Testing Engineer will provide Mechanical technical support to specialist activities (detailed below), and system engineering of specialist systems by intermittently working within the teams of the Pre-Commissioning Leads.
Project overview:
The Joint Venture has been selected to provide Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management services to deliver a 2 M tons per year Alumina Refinery in Abu Dhabi's Khalifa Industrial Zone.
Key responsibilities: - Support pre-commissioning activities, such as lube oil flushing, seal system flushing and charging, chemical cleaning, final alignment and coupling installation.
- Participate in walk downs, mechanical checks, vessel closures and installation of filters/spades/blinds.
- Execute specific specialist pre-commissioning activities (in coordination with system engineers — Both Redside and Whiteside) such as leak testing, air freeing, flooding, filling, coupled pump runs and removal/reinstate suction/discharge valves.
- Apply all project mechanical and general procedures.
- Applies management of change process to the pre-commissioning mechanical activities. This includes design changes, changes to scoped drawings, produces NCRs/RFIs/FCDs, redlines, and associated rework and retesting coordination.
- Lead craft supervision for a wide range of mechanical equipment and system testing & pre-commissioning activities
- Update scoped drawings and databases; whilst coordinating with the Completions Department Turnover Coordinator. This includes input of any required changes into TEAMWorks.
- Applies Mechanical testing documentation and procedures and supports management of change, updating and tracking (working in conjunction with the specific document owners).
- Coordination with site Resident Engineering, Field Engineering, home office engineering and suppliers for mechanical technical issues and queries.
- Work with subcontractors, supplier representatives & other discipline teams to ensure proper documentation of testing.
- Supports LOTO activities during work preparation, and confirms 100% compliance of craft sign on/off.
- Coordinates Mechanical Spare Parts — ensure that they are all available for pre-commissioning use and in the warehouse.
- Supports Lead Mechanical Completions Engineer with component information for Mechanical Field Material Requisitions.
Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or 8-10 years equivalent work experience
Primary Skills: - Knowledge and experience of Mechanical systems, preferably with M&M refinery equipment and Rio Tinto Alcan technology.
- Knowledge of mechanical requirements for completion of construction and testing of Compressors, Process Pumps and Fans.
- Knowledge and Experience of rotating equipment installation, alignment, vibration analisys, and pre-commissioning procedures.
- Knowledge & experience of testing, pre-commissioning, commissioning & turnover practices.
- Knowledge of process electrical isolation to perform safe mechanical tasks.
- Knowledge & experience in PTW, STARRT, JHA, LOTO procedures & practices.
- Knowledge & Experience of conveyors, crusher or Mills testing
- Leadership skills & able to supervise craft for testing and pre-commissioning activity.
- Computer skills including experience with MS Excel, MS Word, Teamworks, and Infoworks in the execution of work assignments.
- Knowledge of and prior experience in using SWPPs and STCPs to govern work activities. Communication
