We are looking for a highly-motivated VP of Corporate Development to support our mission through inorganic growth and help build a world-class M&A function.
Job Purpose and Key Responsibilities
In the past, Careem has utilized M&A and investments to acquire talent, enter verticals such as food ( ) and mass transportation ( ). Going forward, Careem intends to aggressively leverage strategic investments and partnerships for inorganic business development. As the owner of strategic investments and partnerships, the VP of Corporate Development will be at the center of Careem's journey to become the leading multi-vertical platform in MENA. Reporting to the CFO, you will work closely with the CEO, business leaders and interact with the Board of Directors. As VP of Corporate Development, you will be responsible for developing and executing a vision to enable Careem to build its investment and integration muscle for inorganic business development. This includes:
- Build and motivate a world-class corporate development team
- Hire top performers from around the world to support achievement of business goals
- Train, develop and motivate team members
- Develop strategic frameworks for how Careem prioritizes strategic investments and partnerships to meet our goals in transport, payments, food, and talent
- Leverage insights from business drivers and market evolution to focus on priority sectors/technologies/markets
- Build and improve decision-making on key initiatives
- Execute M&A transactions and strategic partnerships
- Build relations with startups, investors and key industry experts (local and global)
- Identify potential opportunities from a comprehensive database of potential M&A targets in relevant sectors across geographies
- Evaluate fit, lead decision-making, structure transactions, secure buy in from all stakeholders and execute transactions in support of strategic objectives
- Ensure post-merger integration overdelivers on intended value for the organization
- Identify key success factors, business owners and governance structures that derive value
- Persist in identifying, resolving and debottlenecking PMI issues
Qualifications, Experience, Skills & Knowledge
The ideal candidate will be passionate about improving the lives of people, focused on outstanding execution, and super aligned with our core values. Additional qualifications include:
- Minimum 12 years of experience working in investment banking or private equity in consumer internet with a focus on new technologies and M&A
- We have a strong preference of 5-6 years in-house M&A experience.
- Ability to identify and deliver value creation opportunities through strategic investments
- Ability to build relationships, influence decision making, and drive results with internal and external stakeholders
