The Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) 2 is Responsible for assisting physicians, nurses and APP's (APRN/PA) with patient care, clerical, environmental and organizational tasks, as well as assisting with appointment scheduling and chart management. Provides information to patients and other staff to fully maximize patient's clinical experience.
PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values.
2. Fulfills patient care responsibilities to include:
a. Monitoring schedules and organizing patient flow.
b. Bringing patient to exam room, taking and recording baseline vital signs in EMR.
c. Prepares patient for examination treatment by taking patient histories and vital signs, accurately documenting in the EHR available to the consulting physician.
d. Prepares equipment and aids physician during examination.
e. Registers and maintains timely, complete information in the patients' EHR and charts to ensure accurate patient care. Posts tests and examination results immediately.
f. Dispenses medication as directed. Observes and records patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments, and reports to provider.
g. Educates patients and their families about diagnostic procedures, medications, pre and post-treatment instructions, nutrition, and maintenance of general health and wellness.
h. Phlebotomy and EKGs as needed including initiation of Cardioversion work-ups.
i. Utilization of EMR and paper to refill patient medications per protocol.
j. Understanding of diagnosis allowed for ordering tests/procedures to ensure reimbursement.
k. Ordering and stocking educational materials.
l. Stocking and maintenance of drug room and samples.
3. Fulfills clerical responsibilities to include:
a. Sending and obtaining medical records, pharmacy information, lab/x-ray results, office and hospital notes and diagnostic studies, etc.
b. Use of EMR for information and documentation.
c. Completion of FMLA, insurance appeals, disabilities, prior authorization of medication and other related documents for patients.
d. Insuring accurate demographic information for patient chart.
4. Fulfills environmental responsibilities to include:
a. Ordering and storing supplies for exam and procedure rooms.
b. Cleaning rooms , instruments and equipment in accordance with established infection control protocols and recording above as needed.
5. Fulfills organizational responsibilities to include:
a. Responding appropriately to urgent/emergent situations.
b. Notifying supervisor of problems/incidents related to staff or patients in a timely manner.
c. Respecting and promoting patients' rights.
d. Coverage of other staff as needed.
e. Completing special projects as assigned.
f. Attendance and participation of staff meetings as assigned.
g. Compliance with all organizational standards.
h. Assists provider in both Lincoln and Outreach Clinic sites.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalency. Current certification as a Medical Assistant required. Minimum of one (3) year work experience as a medical assistant in a clinical setting preferred.
