We're seeking a Legal Counsel based in Dubai (Director level). Western Union is seeking a qualified attorney with experience in the financial services industry (ideally in the fintech sector) to join our Global Money Transfer (GMT) Legal team. In this role you will primarily support Western Union's money transfer products with a strong focus on digital channels across Africa and Middle East. This attorney would support the region's (Middle East and Africa) Senior Counsel and would work closely with the digital product teams and external partners.

- providing legal and regulatory advice on the design and upgrades of money transfer products, on legal requirements for engineering and user acceptance testing (UAT) of digital products, and proactively identifying associated risks and recommending mitigation strategies.
- providing legal and regulatory advice on money transfer issues related to digital payments, digital wallets, clearing and settlement, anti-money laundering rules, currency and foreign exchange controls, banking regulations, payment regulations and guidelines, licensing and other regulatory and legal matters.
- drafting and negotiating agreements for digital partnerships and agreements with Western Union agents for retail and account-payout network products.
- supporting regulatory initiatives (including meeting with law enforcement and government regulators) as may be required.
- providing support for digital expansion, including licensing strategy and partnerships.
- providing advice in partnership with Public Policy and regulatory attorneys as well as Compliance in the region to implement solutions that drive end-to-end customer value delivery.
What you will need to succeed: - Juris Doctorate or country equivalent degree from an accredited school of law.
- 5+ years of related/practical legal experience in a law firm or in the legal department of a multi-national corporation, preferably in the financial service or fintech industry.
- Proven track record of commercial contract drafting and negotiation, working directly with business clients and international companies.
- Experience in dealing directly with business clients at all levels, internal and external, but in particular in counseling senior business clients.
- Experience in negotiating contracts in diverse cultures with a high degree of sophistication and creativity.
What will make you stand out:
- Admitted to a US State Bar or country equivalent as required by local requirements.
- Native English-speaker proficiency with excellent drafting and communication skills, and ideally also fluent in French.
- Demonstrated knowledge of a broad range of local and international regulatory and compliance matters related to digital money transfer products.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately identify, assess and prioritize risk in a broad spectrum of matters related to the digital money transfer business.
- Demonstrated ability to conduct effective meetings and presentations to clients on complex legal matters.
