POSITION SUMMARY: Assist kitchen manager and cooks in the performance of a variety of tasks, including: food storage, preparation, serving, clean-up, kitchen/cafeteria operation and maintenance. Follow & meet all nutritional & food-safety regulations/guidelines as established by Federal-USDA, State and District mandates. Meet work-performance expectations in job knowledge; communications; planning/organization; job performance; professionalism; following District policies & safety procedures.

Based on the above wage schedule, the District will pay the employee's 6% contribution to the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), upon eligibility.
Retirement Plan Contributions
North Clackamas School District (NCSD) is a Public Employee's Retirement System (PERS) employer. PERS allows employees to contribute 6% of their salary to their Individual Account Program (IAP). However, NCSD makes the 6% contribution to its employee's IAP account. This means no money is taken out of employee paychecks, but the employee is still receiving 6% of the salary contributed to his/her retirement IAP account. In addition, NCSD makes a contribution to the employee's PERS OPSRP Pension Plan.
SCHEDULE: 10:15AM - 1:15PM
WORK CALENDAR: 174 days
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Successful experience in working with culturally diverse families/communities; or demonstrated commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community, and skill in communicating with a diverse population.
- Graduation from high school or equivalent.
- Proven knowledge, experience and skills in food/supply order, receipt, storage, inventory, preparation, cooking/baking; nutrition requirements; record keeping and reporting.
- Ability to communicate and maintain good working relations with other employees, students, community representatives, school staff and nutrition services management.
- Initiative and ability to work with minimal direction; sound judgment and decision making capabilities are essential.
- Ability to do math calculations and follow requisite production planners for effective food preparation and service; read and comprehend recipes and directions for equipment use.
- Maintain valid Food Handlers Card.
- Plan daily work effectively and complete work on time with a minimum of supervision.
- Work effectively in challenging situations.
- Ability to pass pre-placement drug and physical examinations.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: - Experience in a school environment involving preparation and service of a large and varied number of meals and food products in a condensed period of time.
- Serve safe certification.
- First Aid training.
- Bilingual and/or bicultural skills.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (depending on specific assignment) * Food Preparation:
- Enact food/supply order, receipt, storage and inventory duties according to set standards, including those related to food safety/quality and cost efficiencies/controls.
- Organize work time to review and use menus, recipes, production specifications and program standards to prepare and cook menued meals to standards, particularly those related to food quality/safety.
- Assume lead role in food preparation, cooking and presentation.
- Process and follow requisite production planners for effective food preparation and service; read and comprehend recipes and directions for equipment use.
- Help train and direct the work of student worker(s), food service assistant(s).
- Perform in other positions when needed.
- Food Service, Cleaning, and Maintenance:
- Present & serve menus according to set standards, which include those related to marketing, portion-control, customer service & efficiency.
- May operate meal computer to account for daily meals, sales and bank deposit (secondary schools).
- May assist in cleaning food preparation and cooking surfaces, utensils, pots, pans, trays, etc.
- Monitor work areas for safety hazards and respond appropriately (i.e.: immediate cleanup of floor spills; fast removal of work obstructions; etc.)
- Ensure equipment is clean and well-maintained; that appropriate staff (custodian/food service supervisor) is alerted to equipment in need of repair/service.
- Perform in other positions when needed.
- Help train and direct the work of student worker(s), food service assistant(s).
3. Administrative and Safety Functions * Assist with food/supply order, receipt, storage and inventory functions using prescribed process/system & tools.
- Maintain awareness of energy conservation; make suggestions of methods/procedures to help reduce the cost of energy.
- Secure food, supplies & equipment; protect against pilferage, loss, theft, or abuse.
- Maintain awareness of facility and equipment to detect and prevent injuries or damage.
- Ensure reimbursable meals are appropriately identified, served and accounted for.
- Fulfill program record requirements daily, which include meal-production records, temperature logs and safety inspections.
- Help maintain a fiscally sound food service operation, which includes controlling food, supply and payroll costs to standards set.
- Perform in other positions when needed.
- Attend all scheduled training.
4. Secondary Schools * Operate meal computer/Point of Sale (POS); assist with staff POS training.
- Effectively follow cash handling and bank-deposit procedures.
- Help train staff on point-of-sale operations and procedures.
