General Purpose of Position:
Maintains the financial books and records of the organization, applies GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles), performs analytical work, performs a thorough review of monthly financial records, and executes financial control procedures to protect the financial assets of the organization. Demonstrates an understanding of process flows and controls within the department and organization.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
- Assists in the preparation of financial statements by gathering and analyzing financial information from the general ledger system and from individual departments
- Generates, analyzes, reviews, and communicates financial data that reflects actual performance against the budget; assist in reporting variances along with root cause and countermeasure analysis on significant issues
- Performs month-end closing functions, including monthly, quarterly and annual journal entries and supporting documentation; Performs general ledger account analysis and reconciliations
- Assists in the documentation and monitoring of internal controls; formalizes documentation on transactions
- Answers accounting and financial questions by researching and interpreting data
- Performs standard cost calculations and inventory valuation through the life cycle of the product; assists in the quarterly and annual physical inventory observation and reconciliation
- Reviews and approves invoice coding for proper recording in the A/P system
- Reviews daily bank activity and takes necessary steps to ensure account balances and transactions are properly recorded; Identifies, researches and resolves any unusual transactions
- Works with external consultant on government reporting, including all billing and reporting issues; ensures compliance with all government agencies and programs
- Maintains fixed asset records and depreciation schedules
- Performs royalty calculations and ad-hoc reporting to various groups within the organization
- Implements process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, networking and participating in professional societies
- Protects operations by keeping financial information and plans confidential
- Mentors and coaches accounting staff and interns

Education and Experience: - B.S. degree in Accounting required
- 5+ years of progressive responsibility required; public accounting experience a plus
- CPA (certified public accountant) license strongly recommended (or working towards CPA license)
- Experience in an accounting role in the pharmaceutical or healthcare industry a plus
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
- Ability to sit at desk for extended periods of time
- Extended viewing of computer screens
- Ability to perform minimal lifting (typically less than 25 pounds), walking, and physical exertion (bending, kneeling, twisting, climbing) specific to physical inventories and related work
- Good eyesight and critical thinking to read, create and interpret business documents and spreadsheets
- Manual dexterity to operate computer and other general office equipment
