Position Description: CLEAN HARBORS is seeking a Senior Payroll Accountant to join our growing team!
In this role, you would be responsible for reviewing, reconciling, and maintaining a variety of payroll accounting and financial data and information, including assisting with financial closings and preparing a variety of reports and records of assets and liabilities related to the companyayroll.
Responsibilities: - Prepare and post monthly payroll journal entries;
- Prepare reconciliations of payroll balance sheet accounts to include withholding accounts as well as cash accounts;
- Prepare account analyses of the payroll balance sheet accounts with month to month changes and year to year changes supported and explained; Answer questions from external auditors and provide support as needed;
- Support the Field and other business units regarding payroll and other journal entry or monthly questions that arise;
- Responsible for reporting to supervisor potential control deficiencies, noted procedural changes that have occurred or may occur which may require update to SOX documentation, and for suggesting improvements to the financial control environment;
- Responsible for reading, comprehending, and following the applicable narratives pertaining to Sarbanes Oxley (SOX) requirements;
- Assist in payroll processing and accounting for acquisitions and/or divestitures; including migration of data into our payroll systems;
- Key liaison with payroll department to ensure payroll is appropriately posted to the General Ledger;
- Flexibility to assist in management Ad Hoc projects with time sensitive and high visibility requirements.
Requirements: - Bacheloregree in Accounting or Finance;
- 3+ years of experience at a public company or large private company specifically in a payroll processing/corporate accounting role;
- Advanced knowledge in ADP EV5, ADP GL and ADP Tax applications;
- Advanced Microsoft Excel/Access skills and proficiency in Windows based applications and Accounting Information systems;
- Ability to manage complex worksheets to support accounting decisions;
- Strong time management skills to handle multiple tasks and effectively prioritize workload;
- Ability to recognize and investigate unusual amounts on financial statements;
- Analytical and detail oriented;
- Strong problem solving skills;
- Proficiency in PeopleSoft or similar ERP software preferred.
