The Specialist – Library Technical Services is responsible for supporting in the establishment, administration, and maintenance of HCT’s Integrated Library System to ensure students, faculty and staff have access to the library’s resources. The incumbent supports in the identification and selection of resources that are worth acquiring for HCT’s library collection. Additionally, he/she handles cataloguing and metadata creation to allow users to search for material through online catalogue searches.
Requirements Operational
- Develop, maintain, and administer the Integrated Library System and Library website, in collaboration with campus libraries.
- Perform Integrated Library System configuration changes and related technical administration tasks such as managing release, version upgrades, system patches, monitoring system performance, testing, documenting and implementing software changes.
- In coordination with Procurement and Contracts, handle the acquisition of resources for the library collection; this includes licensing, placing orders and vendor relations.
- Develop and maintain an up-to-date, accurate and comprehensive library resources database.
- Periodically create, analyse and prepare reports on systems activities.
- Support in the development and implementation of library discovery and reporting tools that enable effective searching, retrieval and delivery of library resources.
- Participate in the identification, evaluation, and recommendation of system improvements and processes.
- Provide functional support for all activities related to the Integrated Library System.
- Support in the development of library collections through a thorough understanding of curricular and research needs by coordinating with different campuses.
- Based on identified needs, support in the identification, location, and selection of items to add to HCT's library collection; coordinate with Senior Officer - Library Technical Services for the acquisition of selected items.
- Handle cataloguing and metadata creation to allow users to search for material through online catalogue searches; coordinate with Senior Officer - Library Technical Services and Officer - Library Technical Services for the maintenance of library resource records on the Integrated Library System.
- Monitor standardisation and consistency in cataloguing, and provides assistance in resolving complex cataloguing problems.
- Responsible for creation of and updating relevant material in LTS user manual
- Answer escalated queries from campus libraries as and when required regarding all library collection-related matters.
- Coordinate with Professional Development function to develop and deliver training to Library staff to enable them to use the Integrated Library System.
- Keep abreast of latest technologies, trends and practices in library technical services.
QUALIFICATIONS - Minimum of a Master's Degree in a relevant field is required e.g. Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Educational Technologies, Library and Information Science, Information and Documentation Management.
- Full English proficiency is required.
- Advanced computer literacy is required e.g. Integrated Library Systems, Blackboard, Electronic Resources, Web Development, Metadata.
EXPERIENCE - Minimum of three years of relevant work experience in Library Technical Services.
