Senior Laboratory Medical Technologist Location : Dubai Date: 11/08/2018 Ref. JD-TD-1014
We are seeking for qualified individual for the position of Senior Laboratory Medical Technologist.
Responsibilities - Prepares and/or reconstitutes control materials and reagents: Calculate the correct amount of components for the desired quantity and accurately measure and mix each and appropriately identify each with the name of the material, date prepared, date of expiration and initials of preparer.
- Receive specimens for testing: Unpack specimens from shipping containers and assign log numbers using appropriate safety and security measures. Identify unsatisfactory specimens based on defined criteria and process patient orders using the laboratory information systems (LIS) as required.
- Prepare specimens for testing according to department procedures to ensure that accuracy of patient information is followed throughout the process.
- Use appropriate sterilization or decontamination techniques: clean equipment and laboratory areas and safely dispose of contaminated waste; autoclave, wash or acid clean reusable glassware as required
- Ensure adequate inventory: Thoroughly assess equipment, and supplies to ensure sufficient quantities are available for anticipated laboratory workload; order supplies as and when necessary.
- Assemble and distribute specimen collection and shipping kits following the regulations covering shipment of biological and/or hazardous materials; maintain records of distributed supplies.
- Preventative Maintenance: Regularly inspect and document routine maintenance according to manufacturer’s guidelines and NRL’s procedures. Document all actions and take corrective measures when necessary.
- Perform QC and PT: Perform quality control analyses and proficiency testing according to defined procedures.
- Analytical Performance: Perform, without deviation, all analyses and result reporting according to the associated department policies and procedures.
- Maintain regulatory requirements: Ensure that all regulatory agency guidelines are met; to include, the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) Standards, Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD), College of American Pathologists (CAP), International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 15189:2014, Joint Commission (JCI) and other relevant accrediting bodies.
- Actively participate in continuous quality improvement: Review specific processes for improvement opportunities and bring ideas to the attention of the department supervisory staff.
Qualifications and Skills. - BSc in Medical Technology / Laboratory Technology or Biomedical Science
- DHA practice license for Dubai, HAAD license for Abu Dhabi. HCPC or ASCPi is preferred but not essential
- Minimum of three (3) years as a Medical Technologist
- Fluent in English; a second language an advantage
- Experience in a CAP accredited laboratory, working under the supervision of a Pathologist certified by the American Board of Pathology.
