SENIOR INSPECTOR (NDT)

PURPOSE OF THE JOB To assess the condition of plant equipment and facilities using up to date methods & techniques of non- destructive examination as required by the referencing codes. Maintain up to date inspection records, coordinate with other department personnel, carry out and follow-up inspection activities, involve in the planning, scheduling and execution of inspection jobs, foresee inspection requirements and develop procedures in consultation with Asset Integrity Section Team Leader/ Sr. Inspection Engineers / Sr. Corrosion & Metallurgy Engineer prepare inspection reports along with associated formats, forms, check-lists and detail drawings / sketches.
Scope: Identifies defects in static equipments, piping, structures etc by standard inspection methods and informs Sr. Inspection engineer or Team leader.
Prepares Inspection schedules.
DESCRIPTION * Assist in preparation of inspection planning & scheduling and coordinate with maintenance and planning dept. to forecast requirements like scaffoldings, insulation removal, crane etc. to have accessibility to carry out various inspection activities daily normal time & during Turnaround.
- Provide appropriate testing techniques and report inspection observations, abnormalities and recommendations attached with relevant documents like check lists, detail assembly drawings, sketches etc. indicating specific defects to the concerned departments, in consultation with Sr. Inspection / Sr. Corrosion & Metallurgy Engineer/ Asset Integrity Section Team Leader.
- Raise maintenance work orders using MAXIMO for necessary corrective/preventive actions based on inspection recommendations. Close the work order in MAXIMO upon technical completion after site verification / discussion with PAD.
- Carry out inspection, material analysis, hardness testing, coating thickness check, ferrite testing of spares & assemblies when they are received from various suppliers and also during fabrication, maintenance and overhaul, reconditioned parts, modification works as well as new installation of parts, piping, equipment etc.
- Inspection of safety valves, flexible hoses, piping, equipment etc. and witnessing their pressure test at workshop / vendor workshop where ever required. Carry out thickness monitoring of different plant installations and piping and analyze the corrosion trend. Review the readings of corrosion monitoring probes installed in different process streams and report to Sr. Engineer. Carries out Cathodic Protection system monitoring for underground pipelines, metallic/concrete structures including jetty piles and troubleshooting. Inspection of marine jetty structures (concrete & pile structures) and conveyor gallery structures (high raised beams, columns, joists, channels etc.) on periodical basis to monitor corrosion due to marine environment in coordination with specialized vendor.
- Carry out routine day-to-day inspection of plant equipment during operating conditions as per yearly & monthly inspection schedule. Inspection of Reformer Catalyst Tubes by measuring Tube Metal Temperature (TMT), high temperature operating equipment by measuring skin temperature etc.
- Coordinate with third party inspection agencies for executing specialized inspection jobs. Visit vendor shops to carry out inspection activities before acceptance as and when required. Assist the Sr. Engineers in Technical Evaluations, preparation of inspection scopes, check lists for inspection, and coordination of external inspection contractor jobs.
- Implementation of inspection management program by entering the data from all inspection observations & findings in to the computerized system WINCAIRS. Provide historical inputs for the RBI and update the RBI data periodically.
- Witness welder qualification tests and prepare’ certifications of welders qualified for approval by Sr. Engineers / Asset Integrity Section Team Leader.
- Maintain all inspection tools and instruments in proper calibrated and working condition. Report to Sr. Engineer / Asset Integrity Team Leader for timely action to procure spares and for calibration to ensure availability of instruments.
- Carry out photography & videography of plant equipment for inspection observation, installation of new equipment during project works, near miss, anomalies, HSE events, project meetings and training related programs for the career enhancement & development of UAE national developees.
- Provide on the job training for development of UAE Nationals as and when instructed by management.
- Participates in achievement of HSE objectives and compliance of HSE Management System, Policies & Procedures and HSE related studies including HAZOP, HAZID, Root Cause Analysis, Risk Assessment & Audits. Enforces HSEMS compliance, promotes for subordinates & responds to emergencies.
- Lead team of NDT technicians / Inspectors of the short term contractor during TA / shutdown as and when asked by section Team Leader / Sr. Engineer. Involve in the process of selection of technicians along with Sr. Engineer / Team Leader to select suitable candidate for the intended job function.
- Provide support during radiography by contractors, carryout removal / fixing of Radioactive source during shutdown / TA's to ensure Radiation levels are within acceptable limits. Carryout monthly radiation survey of the source installed location / storage pit and maintain records. Assists Sr. Engineer / Team leader by providing inputs to meet regulatory requirements (FANR).
INDEPENDENCE OF OPERATION
Latitude: Identification of defects through standard inspection methods and prepares repair procedures in consultation with Sr. Inspection Engineer
Control: Always in contact with Sr. Inspection Engineer
WORK CONTACTS
Internal: Frequent contacts with all departments staff in the plant for carrying out inspection work and reporting Senior Engineers and Team Leader. Guides Technicians / contract Inspectors during TA for smooth job execution.
External: No Major external contacts.
JOB MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: - Diploma in Engineering or Graduate in Science Plus 8 years experience in Inspection technigues & welding.
- Completion of Secondary (12 years) Education plus 15 years experience in inspection techniques and welding.
Work Experience: - 8 years experience in inspection
Skills: - Thorough knowledge of various non destructive testing methods namely, DPT, MPT, Radiography, Ultrasonic is mandatory.
- Shall be proficient in computer skills in preparing reports reviewing reports etc.
- Good knowledge of written and spoken English.
