Purpose of Position The Senior Accountant will be responsible for complex revenue accounting, business internal controls, and continuous process improvements with a primary focus on waste elimination and creating efficiencies. This position will also assist in the monthly financial close process including preparation and review of journal entries, monthly audits, and reconciliations. The Senior Accountant must understand balance sheet accounts and ensure that accounting transactions comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). This position will support and provide documentation for internal/external audit inquiries; assist in making process improvements/accounting changes; and provide on-going support for various business groups. This position performs back-up responsibilities as required within the General Accounting Group. Individual should enjoy working outside the box and challenging the organization with new ideas and a fresh perspective.
Key Responsibilities Participate in the accurate and timely closing of the monthly and annual financial reporting process
- Complete monthly and annual assigned financial close tasks, including preparation, review and posting of journal entries and submission of financial information into Hyperion database with monthly results, tracking, reporting, flux analysis, stat reporting, and forecasting responsibilities
- Investigate accounting discrepancies and research/respond to customer inquiries (internal/external)
- Accountable for the appropriate use of Balance Sheet accounts in compliance with policies and regulations
- Complete monthly assigned account reconciliations (includes preparing and reviewing) by providing validating proper analysis and supporting documentation
- Research and resolve any reconciling items on a monthly basis
- Assist, support, and provide documentation for internal/external audit processes
- Participate in the execution and improvement of accounting processes
- Assist with implementing and maintaining internal financial controls, procedures, and remediation plans
- Ensure all processes are appropriately documented and assist in the on-going documentation of accounting policies and procedures
- Identify productivity improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy
Other tasks, as assigned, including (but not limited to):
- Provides support for financial system implementations and physical inventory
- Acts as a resource in the training of other team members; provide back-up support as needed
- Provides customer services such as investigating variances, providing detail of departmental charges and advising of financial procedures.
- Through collaboration and teamwork, continues to leverage company-wide resources via further migration of the Global Finance Operations model.
- Supports the goal of providing outstanding customer service while maintaining financial systems of high integrity, ethical conduct and compliance with Company policies.
Qualifications Minimum Qualifications - Proven professional with understanding of accounting theory, current accounting issues (complex rev rec), and accounting systems.
- Working knowledge of consolidation and management reporting systems including process flows of ERP systems.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills; must be able to communicate effectively within all levels of the Company.
- A proven track record in leading/managing projects, meeting deadlines, and working collaboratively as part of a team.
Background and Skill
Bacheloregree in Accounting with in-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Minimum of eight years of professional accounting experience
Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required; all state certifications met
Public accounting and internal controls experience required; Big 4 experience is a plus
Awareness of business trends; Experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus
Proficiency with accounting software; experience with Hyperion and HFM is a plus
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office application with advanced Microsoft Excel skills (no exceptions)
Demonstrated experience with process improvement is required
