The Singapore Centre for 3D Printing (SC3DP) aspires to be the world’s leading research institute in 3D Printing to achieve prominent and outstanding breakthroughs in the research and development of innovative 3D printing technologies, processes and materials, broadly benefitting the University and the industry through the generation of intellectual property and commercial applications in tandem with the fast-paced global environment, catalysing a sustainable and significant impact on Singapore’s economic and national development. By consolidating research activities and resources across schools and centres within and beyond the University, and through close collaboration with its major industry partners, SC3DP will considerably improve and create innovative and novel processes and technologies to expand into the key industry sectors of Aerospace and Defence, Building and Construction and Marine and Offshore.
Primary Responsibilities » Assesses practiccapability of printing customer’s parts given varied material parameters and machine types.
» Coordinates day-to-day operations of laboratory and seeks continuous improvement for laboratory operations (e.g. reduce cost and improve operational efficiency)
» Operate state-of-the-art additive manufacturing equipment and other peripheral equipment, accessories and tools.
» Understands limitations and advantages of different types of additive manufacturing equipment.
» Designs, fabricates and test parts and structures using additive manufacturing equipment and other facilities available in the lab and ensure that all equipment and specifications stated in the project agreement are met.
» Records and interprets results and perform engineering and technical analyses.
» Keeps up to date on new additive manufacturing technologies and all applicable national and organizational safety regulations.
» Coordinate with Engineering Specialists from [email protected] and [email protected]
» Work closely with stakeholders including NAMIC CLP, funding agencies, [email protected] and [email protected]
» Provides timely feedback to Programme Director, Programme PIs and Hub Manager on equipment and operational statuses.
» Provide technical know-how and equipment training and assist Project PIs in formulating scope of potential projects, printing research parts and ensuring timely completion of projects.
» Ensure maintenance and safety of the laboratory in conformity to university guidelines and national safety standards, applicable laws and regulations to keep a pleasant environment in the laboratory for all users and lab visitors.
» Assist with procurement of laboratory, research, storage and disposal needs in conformity to university, school and department’s guidelines and any applicable national laws and regulations.
» Provide or update selected research lab’s cost to business development personnel to support project budgeting.
» Support with emergency procedures and lab safety functions.
Secondary Responsibilities » Coordinate and organize training and outreach activities such as competitions, workshops and seminars.
» Assist Programme Director, Programme PIs and Hub Manager to write and prepare communications content and interface with industry partners.
» Assist Project PIs to formulate technical reference, develop international standards, standards database and commercialise / license the work conducted by the cluster.
» Demonstrate laboratory equipment to visitors.
» Support logistics preparations for the Cluster’s events and outreach activities e.g. packing and delivery of equipment or printed parts for exhibitions, workshops and conferences.
» Support ad-hoc requests concerning the laboratory e.g., lab visits.
» Catalogue measurement and recordings and making them available when requested.
» Assist research staff and students effectively and efficiently in their research work and projects.
» Provide advice on the correct equipment to use
» Design and fabricate jigs and fixtures and programming of specialized machine to achieve work requests specifications.
» Prepare materials and equipment set-up for projects.
» Manage the job request schedule and complete job requests on time.
» Track utilization rate of all equipment.
» Ensure that equipment are well-maintained, lockout, tagout and repairs carried out timely.
» contact with vendors on equipment maintenance, contracts and track frequency of breakdowns.
» Procure and manage the budget of equipment consumables to ensure that the laboratory is well-stocked.
Job Requirements: » Diploma / Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
» At least 2 years of significant practice in Mechanical Engineering under the industries of general manufacturing, aerospace & defence, marine & offshore or building & construction
