Job description: JOB DESCRIPTION Job Purpose
Responsible for obtaining informed consent from patients, both for tissue donation and other human biological material and for the use of data in research. The job holder will achieved stated results in partnership with the clinicians and Nursing agent, study environmental dynamics, identify opportunities and threats and ensure alignment of goals and objectives of programs.
tasks and Responsibilities Primary Responsibilities and tasks (60%)
Consenting and other operational administrative tasks
» Identifies patients whose operations are likely to yield surgical research specimens
» Counsels patients to request for appropriate consent.
» Able to competently perform venepuncture
» Collect the blood from donors to be send for processing
» Ensure and promote continuous process improvement / review of processes of consenting through quality indicators
» Ensure policies and procedures are current
» Maintains everyday contact and contacts with Medical Technologists working for NUH Tissue Repository, ensuring that the technologists are always informed in advance, whenever a patient who has given consent for tissue donation is due for surgery
» Ensure timely dissemination of information, escalation of issues and recommending solutions to problems
» Enters clinical information from consenting patients into a research database
» Communicates with staff of the Medical Records Office where necessary
» Participates in regular audits to assess accuracy of data entry. Ensures that patient confidentiality is maintained
» Writing protocol amendments for IRB approval on new bio banking collaborations with other departments in NUH, amending consent forms and Patient Information Pamphlet Sheet as per the protocol guidelines, necessary discussions and liaison with IRB approval.
Secondary Responsibilities and tasks (40%)
» Handle department’s service request for both internal and external requestors
» Handle the department’s procurement requirement for both operational and capital needs
» Handle the cost recovery for services provided by the department.
» Management and responding to emergency situation for the proper functioning of the department’s operational needs
» Encourage multi-disciplinary teamwork
» Organising and co-ordinating operational processes of areas assigned
» Perform other tasks as assigned by the Head / Senior Manager
Job Specification/Requirements
» Diploma / Degree in Nursing or equivalent qualification.
» Minimum 2 years of related work practice
» Candidate should be Registered Nurse with Singapore Nursing Board
